Upcoming, perhaps by the end of the year is a rumored kaby lake I7-7700K, but it is not supposed to be significantly faster. Also upcoming will be Xpoint optane devices which will be a big performance bump for ssd type devices. It is not clear how much the 200 series chipsets will be required to run them. At that point z270 gaming will be worth upgrading to the 300 series chipset but as of right now for gaming you have more performance for less money and a better future with z170 than x99 seriously at this point in time if you have seriously waited 4 months then whats 2 more but the money you will save with z170over x99 will be at the very least equivalent to the cost of a kaby cpu later to put in your z170 board. Ya it may not make a lot of sense but I will most definitely get the 7700k later and sell my 6700k. And again maybe another bios update will be all it takes for cannonlake tho doubtful. Put it this way, I sold my 2011 i7 2600k setup to build my Sky lake so that setup still crushed 5 years after launch and still would have another 3-4 probably. As a gaming rig youre fine with Skylake. But idk of course i say get z170 now but if you've already waited this long then x99 definitely shouldnt even be a consideration. Skip it get the next process, tho nvidia is saying it'll be a 14nm Pascal. Maybe another couple yrs before a whole new process. But another yr or 2 and then 4k will be the sweet spot with single gpu and display's on par. You won't see the 7700k that cheap until next holiday's Gtx 1080's are 600 all over the place. G1 gaming, I saw Zotac amp under 600 very recently. Price match and buy now and save big. I wasnt able to play all games at a steady 60fps for one, and while when I went down to 2560x1440 I was able to it was still limited to 60hz. Believe me if a manufacturer built a monitor that ran at 144hz at 1440p while letting you switch to 4k 60hz I'd own it. That would be a dream monitor. Because 4k is beautiful it is but playing shooter in multi player 4k just isnt a good option right now but kickin back and playing some z270 gaming player campaign, ya that would great 4k so sorry but no idk why they havent done that yet.
